Clappana, once known as the granary of Onattukara, was a land of fertile fields and hardworking farming communities. During harvest seasons, groups of oxen were traditionally brought from southern regions to support agricultural activities.
🌴 From “Kalappana” to Clappana
According to local tradition, traders and farmers used to tie their oxen to palm trees while resting in the area. The place gradually became known as “Kalappana,” meaning “the land of palm trees where oxen were tied,” which later evolved into the present name “Clappana.”
✨ Folklore & Local Beliefs
Another popular belief connects the name to a legendary palm tree near Chirakkadavu Temple. The tree was believed to possess special qualities and became known as “Klavupana,” which over generations transformed linguistically into “Clappana.”
