Mangrove Forests
The mangrove forests found in the Clappana Grama Panchayat area are extremely important biodiversity-rich ecosystems within the coastal environment. They act as a natural protective barrier, safeguarding coastal areas from strong waves, flooding, and coastal erosion.
Mangrove ecosystems provide valuable habitats for a wide variety of fish, crabs, shrimp and other aquatic species, as well as numerous waterbirds. They also play an important role in mitigating climate change by absorbing and storing carbon.
The mangrove forests in the Clappana region make a significant contribution to nature conservation and the maintenance of ecological balance. These forests also support the livelihoods of local communities, particularly those dependent on fishing and other coastal resources.
